Possible naval cadet or military school student from Reval (Tallinn), Russian Empire, late 19th century

Cabinet portrait photographed in Reval (modern Tallinn), likely dating to the late 1880s or 1890s.

The young man appears to be around 14–17 years old and is wearing what seems to be a military or naval educational uniform rather than a standard army enlisted uniform.

Interesting visible details include:

- Shoulder board possibly showing the number “23”
- Fur cap with Imperial Russian double-headed eagle
- Oval cockade-like insignia above the eagle
- Another small emblem resembling a naval jack or flag
- Dark tunic with light standing collar

Because the photograph was taken in Reval, an important naval city of the Russian Empire and a major Baltic Fleet base, one possibility is that this may be a cadet or student connected to a naval preparatory school, military gymnasium, or another educational institution.

The combination of insignia on the cap does not immediately resemble a regular infantry uniform and may indicate a cadet corps, naval training school, or technical military institution.

Photographer:
T. Livenström — Reval

Would appreciate opinions from collectors or historians familiar with Imperial Russian military or naval uniforms.
